Adding houseplants is one of the easiest ways to breathe life into your home, however if you live with pets, makes sure it's not just about the Aesthetics! Always remember your pets safety.
Many common houseplants can be toxic to dogs and cats when chewed or ingested, leading to anything from an upset stomach to serious health concerns. Donāt worry, you can still enjoy that lush, green vibe and keep your furry friends safe.

Hereās how to create a pet-friendly indoor jungle:
šŖ“ Choose Pet-Safe Plants.
Pets are curious, especially cats and puppies. Whether itās a dangling leaf, soft soil, or just something new in their environment, plants can quickly become playthingsāor snacks. Choosing non-toxic varieties means peace of mind in case your fur baby gets a little too curious.
š± Pet-Safe Plants That Are Easy to Care For
Here are a few pet-friendly, low-maintenance plants to get you started:
Spider Plant: A classic favorite thatās easy to grow and helps purify the air. Its arching leaves are non-toxic and tolerate low light. In my home growing up we had 1 to 3 of these in every room (bathroom included)
Boston Fern: Loves humidity and adds texture to any room. Perfect for bathrooms or kitchensāand safe for pets!
Prayer Plant: Known for its beautiful, patterned leaves that fold up at night. Safe and stunning. (Try recording one of these on a speed laps so fun to watch it move)
Calathea: Striking foliage with bold patterns and a variety of species. Great for indirect light and totally pet-safe.
Cast Iron Plant: True to its name, itās nearly indestructible and perfect for low-light rooms. Safe for both cats and dogs. (For those of you like me that struggle with keeping plants alive. I know my dogs every barking meaning but can't remember if I've watered the plant this year)
Peperomia: With thick, colorful leaves and tons of varieties, peperomia is a go-to for small spaces and tabletops.
Air Plant: No soil required! These quirky little plants thrive with minimal care and can be placed almost anywhere.
Baby Tears: A soft, trailing plant thatās completely pet-friendly. Looks great in terrariums or as ground cover in large pots.
š¶ Pro Tip: Placement Matters
Even pet-safe plants can cause digestive upset if consumed in large amounts. Try placing plants on shelves, in hanging baskets, or behind barriers for extra safety and longevity.
